Why I would like to see an iPhone 14 Pro mini

A mini iPhone had been rumored for years until it arrived with the iPhone 12 mini in 2020. But due to seemingly low sales, it looks like the mini is dying out with the iPhone 14 lineup.

However, it is a model that has carved out its own fan base, mainly due to the fact that it is about the same size as the iPhone SE (2016), and you can use it with it. one thumb instead of two hands.

Having the power of the latest iPhone but in a smaller package is very appealing, but it could go even further.

There hasn’t been an iPhone 13 Pro mini variant where you have three cameras in a 5-inch body, but there should be for the 14-series.

It took me many years to love bigger iPhones. I was content to navigate apps and messages with a single thumb covering the screen, with no effort to use my hand to reach for the top corner of the iPhone.

I still consider the iPhone 4 to be the best model Apple has made for the lineup, but if you pushed me to think of the best iPhone in recent years, it would be the iPhone 13 Pro. The improvements to the camera, battery life, and display make this an iPhone that I haven’t liked since the iPhone 5 because of these three features.

However, thinking of the same model in a smaller chassis is more appealing, as there are times when I have to move my hand to reach the upper parts of the screen, such as the control center.

Although the battery is less due to the size, it would be a compromise that I would gladly take if it meant having the best features of an iPhone in a smaller screen that I can reach for the entirety of a single inch.

It’s only three months since the iPhone 13 series launched, but there are some features that I would love to see emerge.

FaceID is still difficult to use in certain situations, especially when wearing a face mask. Rolling back TouchID on the iPhone, perhaps in the power button, similar to the iPad mini, would be of great help.

A smaller notch will always be welcome, and it was great to see the start of that with the iPhone 13 series, but let’s take it a step further next year. An even smaller notch that could represent a raindrop that houses the front camera and FaceID module in one could allow more icons to return to the top of the screen, especially the battery percentage icon.

MagSafe has been another remarkable feature for me since owning the iPhone 13 Pro. But there are times when my AirPods Pro won’t charge overnight and drain completely.

Having them hung on the back of an iPhone 14 so they can charge would be of great help in these situations.

Finally, I was surprised to see a light blue choice appear for a Pro model this year, so let’s see a dark purple for an iPhone 14 Pro mini.

However, Apple likes to keep it simple, and having a mini model in the Pro line might confuse customers looking to upgrade even more. There are also rumors of a bigger iPhone SE to come, so there might be five different models to choose from in 2022.

But whatever they decide, seeing a Pro mini would be my idea of the perfect iPhone. Mixing the past with the present, preparing it for the future, would be enticing.

But if not, just give us TouchID, Apple.
