This is a sweet story put together by Fox 17 reporter Max Goldwasser. Goldwasser spoke to Justina Thalison, who turned 94 on Sunday. Thalison’s birthday wish was to do something very simple – go see a movie. What makes it unique is that Thalison hadn’t been to the movies for 84 years. You have already done the math. She last saw a movie in a cinema in 1938, when she was only ten years old. What closed the story was that Thalison was back in the same theater (she saw Sing 2) where she saw the one and only movie she ever saw (which she can’t remember) at the Ionia Theater.

Which made me think of how much you would have missed if you were like Thalison and had gone 84 years between visits.

So here are four things you would have missed if the last movie you saw was in 1938.

Today, if a film is released in black and white, it’s almost stunning. It was quite the opposite in 1938. Color had been around since about 1900 but didn’t start appearing in major movies until the mid-1930s. The Wizard of Oz wasn’t the first color movie, but it was the first big blockbuster, and in that movie it went from black and white to color after about the first twenty minutes.

2. All the Great Movies

When it comes to a great movie, it doesn’t matter if it’s color or black and white, but in those 84 years, think of all the great movies you’ve seen or wish you had seen in of their first outing. . My favorite film is Casablanca, but it came out about twenty years before me; It’s the same for Citizen Kane. I missed Some Like It Hot (possibly the greatest comedy of all time) but managed to get my parents to take me to The Sound of Music. In high school and college, I saw American Graffiti and The Sting, Star Wars and more, and in the 80s classics like Raiders of the Lost Ark. And all of these films lead to the following reason.

3. See great movies on the big screen.

I guess if you say big screen to a kid, they’ll think about a 60-inch HDTV or so. No, not even close. There’s something about seeing movies in a movie theater. Maybe that’s why movie stars were movie stars back then. They looked bigger projected on a screen. There is something to be said for “larger than life”.

4. Air conditioning.

Air conditioning was invented around 1900, as was the color film process, but it’s not like it’s in every home. Back then, people were sweating. And one way to escape the heat was at the movies. Maybe the heat didn’t bother Mrs. Thalison much, but a lot of people used to go to the movies to cool off; it didn’t matter how horrible the movie was. The theater was cool.

5. Those great movie theaters of the past

Have you ever been to the State Theater in Kalamazoo? 84 years ago, most theaters were like this. In Kalamazoo alone, there was The Regent, The Fuller, The Uptown, The Michigan, The Orpheum, in addition to the state, and it’s right downtown. In Ionia it was perhaps the only one, or at best two or three.

Hope Mrs. Thalison had a great time and can go back soon.

Minneapolis (KROC AM News) – A Rochester man has pleaded guilty to his role in some of the destruction that took place in the Twin Cities following the death of George Floyd.

Jose Angel Felan, 35, pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to arson.

A sentencing date has not yet been set.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis said earlier that Felan and his 23-year-old wife Mena Dhaya Yousif visited several businesses on University Avenue in St. Paul. Felan was charged with burning down a Goodwill retail store, Gordon Parks High School and the 7 Mile Sportswear store. They were burned down on May 28, 2020.

Prosecutors say that over the next week, Yousif aided and abetted Felan as he fled Rochester, Texas, before crossing the border into Mexico. Yousif traveled with Felan and helped him escape by destroying evidence and providing false information to law enforcement.

The two were arrested by Mexican authorities in February 2021 and returned to the United States to face prosecution. Yousif pleaded guilty last September to being an accomplice after the fact and is awaiting sentencing.

From the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis:

According to court documents, on May 28, 2020, Jose Angel Felan, Jr., 35, set fire to the Goodwill retail store, Gordon Parks High School and the 7 Mile Sportswear store, all located on University Avenue in St. Paul. Following the arson attacks, Felan and his wife and co-defendant Mena Dhaya Yousif, 23, fled the state. Felan and Yousif traveled by car from Rochester, Minnesota, to Texas, where Felan had family. Eventually, Felan and Yousif fled the United States and fled to Mexico. On February 15, 2021, following an anonymous tip, Felan and Yousif were located and detained by Mexican immigration authorities and returned to the United States.

When you read that Maine has one of the oldest populations in the country, you don’t often think they are contributing members of society. Many in Madawaska consider Armand a source of inspiration. He is. A WWII veteran who doesn’t look the day over 70!

Liz Morneault/YouTube

Liz Morneault/YouTube

When Armand left home to work, he was only 16 years old. One of the jobs he had was at Baxter State Park, putting the big boulders that are along the road. They are still there today. He is the eldest of nine children in his family. He was married twice. Both times to women named Yvette! What a beautiful boy. In an interview with Liz Morneault, he talks about Yvette breaking up with him. That’s why he joined the army!

They “picked up” again and ended up getting married!

He has five children: Gene, David, Roger, Phillip and Phyllis, Phillip’s twin sister.

Everyone always wants to know what is the secret of life for centenarians. For Armand, reading is his favorite pastime. He loves old westerns and fiction the best. He also monitors what he eats and exercises. He’s on his treadmill every day when the weather isn’t great, but he prefers to be outside walking the streets. He likes to walk at least a mile every day.

Liz Morneault/YouTube

Yeah. He still drives. He will make the trips to the grocery store or the pharmacy, but he has one of his three boys (who also live in Madawaska) take it if it needs to go beyond the city. He destroyed his car 5 years ago and found himself without wheels for a while. It didn’t last long and he bought a new car at the age of 101.

With his new car, he doesn’t plan to stop driving anytime soon. A neighbor predicted he would live to be 310. Armand says he feels pretty good and isn’t ruling anything out.

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott have their work cut out for them this offseason. They have a lot of retooling to do and plenty of unrestricted free agents trying to re-sign.

The Bills have 15 unrestricted free agents and almost no wiggle room to enter free agency.

Unrestricted free agents include:

  • Mitchell Trubisky
  • Taiwan Jones
  • matt breida
  • Emmanuel Sander
  • Isaiah McKenzie
  • Jake Kumerow
  • Ike Boettger
  • Bobby Hart
  • Jerry Hughes
  • mario addison
  • Efe Obada
  • Harrison Phillips
  • Vernon Butler
  • Siran Neal
  • Levi Wallace

The Bills also have two restricted free agents – Justin Zimmer and Ryan Bates.

It’s quite interesting that former assistant general manager Joe Schoen, who is now the general manager of the New York Giants, noted recently that they (the Bills) were going to have money “over there”, implying that the Bills would have enough room to make moves in free agency.

How would the Bills create enough cap space to sign free agents to help them reach the Super Bowl in 2023?

There are two ways to create cap space: restructure current contracts and release players who are currently under contract.

You may have heard the expression “limit the number of victims”. These are players who are removed from a roster, to save money for the salary cap. They are usually performed with veterans, which can be considered expendables.

It’s almost certain that the Bills will try to restructure contracts this spring/summer, but releasing players is also something that will likely happen.

One player who could definitely be a victim of the cap is wide receiver Cole Beasley.

Beasley carries a cap of $7.6 million in 2022, and what’s interesting is that Beasley’s dead cap goes down to just $1.5 million in 2022. That means there’s little penalty, financially, to release him during the last year of his contract.

Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei and linebacker AJ Klein are also prime candidates for “stunts.”

Beasley signed with the Bills in 2019 and played a significant role in the Bills’ offense in 2019 and 2020; he provided security cover for Josh Allen.

However, Beasley’s role was diminished in 2021; even though he caught 78 passes, he was not a threat to run routes in front of the sticks. The 32-year-old wide receiver turns 33 in April and his veteran leadership was a reason he was brought in for Allen.

Now that Allen has risen to the top two or three quarterbacks in the NFL, and the fact that the Bills need cap space to make offseason upgrades to positions like cornerback, offensive line, defensive line, running back and wide receiver, it’s a real scenario to deal with that he’s released for heading purposes.

Beasley made headlines in 2021 with his position on the COVID-19 vaccine, including tweets that made the rounds, defending his position on the vaccine. Beasley was notably not vaccinated during the season.

Would you be okay with the Bills releasing Beasley to make room on the cap, or would you be against it? Which free agency wide receiver would you want for the Bills next season?

Did these free agents last play as Bills?

One of the most popular topics on all forms of social media in recent months and dating back to 2020 has been state, county and city mask mandates across the country, in response to spikes in constantly evolving COVID-19.

Some states have recently dropped some mask mandates, such as California and New Jersey, and according to a New York Times report, New York will follow this trend to end some mask mandates.

The New York Times reports tonight that New York Governor Kathy Hochul will announce tomorrow (Wednesday, February 9) that the current statewide mask mandate for indoor public spaces will end.

The mandate stated that all indoor public spaces in New York State require everyone to wear a mask, except for businesses that had a proof of vaccination requirement. The decision was made in December, when the state was dealing with a huge spike in COVID-19 cases, largely due to the Omicron variant.

The mask warrant is due to expire on Thursday, and it looks like Governor Hochul will simply leave that expiration date without an extension.

This does not mean that the separate mask mandate in New York schools will expire, as that expiration date is February 21. This decision has not yet been made.

As for here in Western New York, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz released a statement Tuesday that Erie County will follow suit with Governor Hochul and New York State in dropping his mask mandate.

The mask mandate went into effect for Erie County on Nov. 23.

However, employees and guests of county-owned facilities would still have a mask mandate, at least until the end of February.

The Buffalo Sabers will be back in action this Thursday night when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at KeyBank Center.

The season hasn’t gone exactly the way fans hoped, and the team feels that way too, as Buffalo looks to an 11th straight year without a playoff appearance.

That’s not to say the season was a total failure; they’re much more entertaining than a year ago when fans were miserable watching the team under former head coach Ralph Krueger.

The Sabers are playing a better brand of hockey and more fun in the offensive zone, with young talent like Tage Thompson, Dylan Cozens and Rasmus Dahlin. Head coach Don Granato is the right coach for a rebuilding team like Buffalo.

There’s something fans can’t wait to happen this season, and it’s only a month away.

In case you didn’t know, the Buffalo Sabers and Toronto Maple Leafs will be participating in the 2022 Heritage Classic.

The Heritage Classic is an outdoor game that usually pits two Canada-based teams against each other, but this year the Sabers will play in the game as the first US-based team to play in the outdoor game. The game will be played in Hamilton, Ontario at Tim Hortons Field.

The Heritage Classic does not take place every year, but every three years.

The match will be played on Sunday March 13 at 4 p.m.

This is the logo for this year’s Heritage Classic.

As for the jerseys the Leafs and Sabers will wear, that hasn’t been made public yet. Will they be different from what the teams are wearing now? Usually teams wear classic design jerseys for Winter and Heritage Classic outdoor games, but we still haven’t heard anything.

I think we should have the jersey unveilings in the next week or two.

This will be the Sabres’ third away game. They played the first Winter Classic on January 1, 2008 at what was then called Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, and then the 2018 Winter Classic at Citi Field against the New York Rangers.

Many intelligent and critical people wonder how well Covid-19 vaccines work in preventing the spread of the Covid-19 virus. We might just have an answer by Michigan

The Michigan Capitol Confidential news site reports some very interesting numbers from the University of Michigan (U of M). As of January 2021, the campus had a campus-wide vaccination rate of 0%. At that time on their campus, there were 625 cases of Covid-19.

Now let’s move on to last Tuesday, January 18, 2022. On that date, the vaccination rate at U of M was 98% and there were 1,769 cases in the month on campus. These numbers are from U of M’s own dashboard. We are also advised by U of M that their January 2022 Covid-19 case counts are preliminary and are likely to increase.

Last July, in a statement announcing and ordering vaccinations against Covid-19, officials wrote:

Widespread vaccination is the main and most effective tool that will bring the COVID-19 pandemic under control and it is the key to a dynamic and engaging academic year.

Would they like to retract this statement after seeing the results I just informed you and them about?

It seems that vaccines do not prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

One of the coolest things Spady told us about was the DNFDR Bulletproof Backpack. Think of a normal backpack, but it has a body armor plate inside to cover your back… flip it to the front and you have a cover there too.

David Spady: It’s the lightest body armor that the US military has committed to, and there’s also a consumer line that, if you go to DFNDR.com, is available to the public. My kids all went to school with body armor in their backpacks…the company has these panels that fit very easily in a briefcase, or a kids backpack, and I wear them one with me in my briefcase and work backpack. It is an excellent product, very light. You don’t even really know you have it in there, but it will stop a gun at close range. I tried.

He also paid tribute to the Montana Outdoor Legacy Foundation, with which he has been involved for several years. Spady told us, “You can’t have hunting without constant conservation; you really don’t have conservation without hunting.

David Spady on MT Outdoor Legacy Foundation: This is a Montana-based group that works with Fish, Wildlife and Parks in Montana to make property acquisitions near rivers…to provide more access to the great outdoors of Montana in areas where we’d like to go and recreate.

The day is finally here. The final game of the NFL’s Divisional Playoff Round will be played tonight at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. Kick off is at 6:30 p.m.

The Bills and Chiefs are not only the two hottest teams in the NFL, with the two best offenses in the NFL, but both teams have probably the two most talented quarterbacks on the planet (Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes ).

This is actually the fourth time the two teams have met in the past 15 months, since October 2020 at Orchard Park. The Chiefs won that wet and windy encounter, 26-17.

The Chiefs lost to the Bills last October, 38-20, and of course the Bills lost to the Chiefs in last year’s AFC Championship game, 38-24.

The Chiefs have scored 30 or more points in five of their last six games, with 42 points against the Pittsburgh Steelers in last week’s Wild Card game.

The Bills haven’t lost since Dec. 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Buffalo has been incredible on the field since the start of the second half of that overtime loss to the Bucs.

Josh Allen and the offense scored a touchdown on all seven possessions in their 47-17 win over the New England Patriots in their Wild Card game, with what was the first perfect game on offense in franchise history. the NFL.

If you’re not a Bills or Chiefs fan (no stress), this is the game you’ve been waiting for and hoping for. In fact, it’s the biggest new rivalry in the NFL and in North America’s big four sports in general.

The no-division Bills-Chiefs rivalry is very reminiscent of the rivalry between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots between 2001-2009. They were considered the AFC’s two best teams of the decade and had two of the top five quarterbacks of all time in Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes is the modern take on Brady v. Manning. It’s the quarterback game that NFL fans have been dreaming of for weeks and hoping would happen in the playoffs.

Both teams play a high-octane passing game and rely heavily on their young superstar quarterbacks.

It has the makings of being even bigger and better than Jim Kelly vs. Dan Marino.

The two teams don’t like each other either, as evidenced by the end of the 2020 AFC Championship game.

It’s America’s new favorite sports rivalry and the Bills are one of them.

Lately my wife and I watched the old show All in the Family. This show will go down as one of the most polarizing sitcoms in television history.

At the time, it was considered one of the best sitcoms. Everyone looked at him. The main character was Archie Bunker, played by the late great actor Carroll O’Connor. His character was a very intense fanatic who was just amazing. His wife, played by the late great Jean Stapleton, was Edith. A very sweet woman who was also just amazing and sweet.

This casting was a very tight and wonderful casting. There was Rob Reiner “Meathead” and his wife Sally Struthers who was daughter Gloria. The last episode was in 1979. There were also five other sitcom spinoffs.

There were so many different shows growing up that just couldn’t be on TV today. It’s amazing how life, opinions and people change over the years. These shows like All in the Family, Sanford and Son, The Jefferson’s, Chico and the Man and many more would be excluded today. But, I will say this, these actors like Carroll O’Connor and them are all great actors.

People need to see these shows in 2022 and come to their own conclusions. People also need to understand what the times were like.
