House ‘Christmas Tale’ for sale

I think we all have favorite Christmas movies or specials, or both, right? I guess the big favorites would be Elf, Santa, Scroogedand of course, A Christmas Story. Mine is a dark comedy called The Ref. Most people strongly disagree or have never heard of it.

But back to A Christmas story. The timeless holiday classic evokes the traditional Christmas feeling that I have always enjoyed. It’s a healthy dose of nostalgia that adds many helpings of the magic kids feel during the season.

Believe it or not, I only saw it cover to cover for the first time just five years ago. I know I know. I get all eyes on that one. Why I always missed it, I’ll never know. But it was in 2017 that I decided I was going to sit down and watch it for one of the 973 times it ran on TNT or TBS, or maybe both.

At the Christmas Story gift shop in Cleveland, it’s going on a loop, as you can imagine. When we visited and did the full tour in the summer of 2021, it was like stepping back in time. The house and the neighborhood – a still heavily populated neighborhood – are complete throwbacks to the 1940s. Very evocative.

And now this house AND the museum are listed and awaiting new owners. Talk about iconic property.

It goes without saying, but I say it anyway. I hope against all hope that the new owners will keep it going as a tourist attraction. It’s a gold mine. I felt the same when the field of dreams the property has been sold, but is still open for tourism, as it should be.

The time of the list is interesting, given how the sequel to A Christmas Story just got out. Whether or not the follow-up will generate the same holiday nostalgia as the original remains to be seen. But with this release and the fact that the holiday season has begun, owners may have captured lightning in a bottle.

As we walked around the house, I thought it might be fun to turn it into a bed and breakfast for the holidays. How perfect would that be? Again, I want it to remain available for tourism as well. Either way, I can’t wait to see what buyers have planned. By the way, here is an overview of the gift shop and the museum.

I’m a huge fan of movie set tours and seek them out whenever I travel. This was my fourth such visit. It’s not my favorite; the field of dreams the house, the cornfield and the baseball field take it a bit. But it was great, and I wouldn’t mind going back.

I just hope we can.

With the holiday spirit in the air, it’s the perfect time to dive into the history of iconic holiday gifts. Using the National Toy Archives and data maintained by The strong from 1920 to the present day, Stacker sought out products that grabbed the minds of the public through novelty, innovation, kitsch, eccentricity, or just the right timing, and then exploded into success.
