That’s exactly why an online program appealed to Omeed Kasim Adham Sindy, a Chicago-based system administrator at the American Medical Association who is earning his iMSM degree at Gies. “I am the main source of income for my family,” he said. “So I had to find a solution to continue working full time. I also didn’t want too much time to pass between my undergraduate degree and my graduate degree.”

Those who have just completed their undergraduate studies and who have no work experience often prefer to continue learning on a campus.

If you’ve recently noticed changes to utility poles in your Massachusetts neighborhood, you’re not alone.

After seeing Eversource vehicles on different streets in my neighborhood, changing locations daily, I wondered what was going on. A few days later, I noticed workers from a utility company roaming the streets, digging up the dirt around the base of the poles.

Instead of googling, I asked my dad, the know-it-all (as if he legitimately knows everything, not just one of those dads who THINKS he knows everything). He told me that they were digging to inspect the viability of the post, basically checking if the wood was rotting or not.

Turns out he was right.

According to Electrocuted.com, the average age of a wooden power line pole is 40 years. Some poles may even be between 85 and 100 years old. Over time, wooden posts can lose their integrity over time due to many factors. Utility companies are responsible for inspecting damage to wooden poles and other structures. Wooden posts lose strength over time due to many factors.

The National Electric Safety Code (NESC) requires a power company to inspect and maintain power lines on a regular basis.

Many utility companies use a five-year inspection cycle, although some are more frequent, and some with low population density and low spoilage/degradation rates last longer than five years.

Wood poles are typically inspected in cycles of five and 12 years, depending on the age of the poles and the utility company.

National Electrical Safety Code

After this inspection, it is determined whether a post should be replaced or simply reinforced. If a post only needs reinforcement, a metal “C-truss” (think a large metal base at the base of the post) is hammered into the ground surrounding the post, which is then tied to the post. In the case of the Pittsfield posts, the metal is painted brown to match the post.

Have you noticed this is in your neighborhood?

Corruption Scandal Focuses on Advertising Firms Working with the Olympics https://cprs-palestine.org/corruption-scandal-focuses-on-advertising-firms-working-with-the-olympics/ Wed, 28 Sep 2022 09:33:00 +0000 https://cprs-palestine.org/corruption-scandal-focuses-on-advertising-firms-working-with-the-olympics/ The ever-escalating corruption scandal linked to the Tokyo Olympics last year has shone a spotlight on advertising agencies that handle official Games business, further tarnishing the image of the international sporting spectacle. The ever-escalating corruption scandal linked to the Tokyo Olympics last year has shone a spotlight on advertising agencies that handle official Games business, further tarnishing the image of the international sporting spectacle.

A high-ranking prosecutor had even remarked that the scandal showed that “not only the corporate sponsors but also the management lacked a sense of fairness.”

The latest embroiled in the burgeoning scandal, Daiko Advertising Inc., had worked to secure sponsors for the Games as a subcontractor to advertising giant Dentsu Inc., which dominated Olympics-related business.

Industry insiders said there must be immense pressure for ad agencies to get involved in an event as big as the Olympics.

“It’s hard for an advertising company with a long history if it can’t be involved in such a huge event as the Olympics,” said one industry insider. “Daiko must have wanted to show he was involved in the Olympics.”

Daiko, established in 1944, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Hakuhodo DY Holdings Inc., a major advertising company, in 2003. The Osaka-based company primarily operates in the Kansai region.

Although the scale of his business is smaller than that of Hakuhodo, Daiko maintains a presence through sales.

Daiko grew, establishing offices in Tokyo and Nagoya and branching out into television commercials for large corporations, then expanding into China and India.

One of the goals of the 2003 merger was to compete with Dentsu, the largest company in the advertising industry.

But there is still a big gap. Dentsu raked in 5.2 trillion yen ($36 billion) in sales in 2021, while Hakuhodo, the industry’s second largest, only reached 1.5 trillion yen in sales for the fiscal year ending in March 2022.

Advertising agencies that solicit sponsors for various events can play an important role in determining the success or failure of an event.

There are many companies in the industry, including small and medium-sized ones, but those that participate in large-scale events are mostly large.

This is particularly the case for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which were both a national and an international project. The Organizing Committee mandated Dentsu, designating it as a “dedicated marketing agency” to select and obtain official sponsors.

Dentsu has outsourced some of its tasks for the Olympics to other advertising agencies, referring to them as “business cooperation agencies”, with the approval of the organizing committee.

Daiko asked Haruyuki Takahashi, 78, a former executive of the organizing committee, to get involved in the sponsorship contract and make it become a cooperating agency. Takahashi had notably previously worked at Dentsu.

Takahashi would have made this possible by approaching Dentsu.

The organizing committee then paid a commission for Dentsu from the sponsorship money, and Daiko made a profit by receiving a subcontractor fee from Dentsu.

“Dentsu alone cannot manage an Olympic-scale event and choose cooperating agencies virtually,” said an executive from another advertising company that worked as a cooperating agency for the Games.

“We received a share of the profits from Dentsu, so it’s hard for us to oppose Dentsu,” the executive said. “Mr. Takahashi was behind it all and his demands were granted.

Yoshikazu Taniguchi, 57, a Daiko executive, was arrested on September 27 on suspicion of paying bribes. He had worked in sales for a major game company and currently oversees Osaka Expo 2025 and other events as general manager of the theme business division.

He has known Takahashi since Tokyo made a bid to host the Olympics.

Takahashi was arrested for the third time on September 27 in another alleged corruption case.

He has previously been charged with corruption in connection with Olympic sponsorships involving clothing manufacturer Aoki Holdings Inc. and publishing company Kadokawa Corp.

But there’s no sign of the scandal abating any time soon.

Prosecutors are investigating plush toy maker Sun Arrow Inc., which made and sold dolls of the Olympic mascots. The company is believed to have provided around 8 million yen to Takahashi.

Welcome to the street prophets coffee time.

I don’t know if you’re familiar with the stooped, flute-playing figure known as Kokopelli. But here it is omnipresent.

The world’s largest Kokopelli has stood for about 20 years just off I-17 in Camp Verde.

Kokopelli is an extremely popular figure in the American Southwest. His image and his name are absolutely everywhere. Adorning everything from posh golf resorts, restaurants and shopping malls to cheesy tourist trap souvenir shops. Printed on t-shirts and shot glasses, embroidered on caps, made in China as lawn decorations, kitschy decor and faux Indian jewelry. He saw his flute repertoire expanded to include tennis rackets, golf clubs, baseball bats and fishing rods. It’s taken by tourists (and quite a few locals) eager to hand over their cash or credit cards for the opportunity to own some mass-produced bric-a-brac. Made, sold, and bought by people who probably have no idea that Kokopelli is actually more than a cute, cartoonish symbol of the Southwest. No idea he’s not some invented mascot for the tourism industry. It is practically an industry in its own right and a source of income for many people.

But there really is so much more. And that for a very long time.

Blue Kokopelli, by Hopi artist Ted Pavatea.

Images of Kokopelli appear in petroglyphs in Arizona and New Mexico. The Anasazi ancestor, from whom the Hopi descended, clearly revered him as an important supernatural being. A Katsina.

This group of phallic Kokopellis is found at the La Cieneguilla petroglyph site in New Mexico.

Kokopelli is generally described as, among other things, a god of fertility. Many ancient petroglyphs describe it as unquestionably well-endowed. Other attributes may include a flute being played, long feathers adorning the head, and what appears to be a distinct hump on the back.

Screenshot_20220914-201145_kindlephoto-400763892.png
A silver pin/pendant by Hopi artist Wilmersaufkie.

Some versions of Kokopelli’s story suggest that rather than a bump, this outer bulge on his back is a backpack. It is known that peddlers traded throughout the Southwest, coming on foot from as far away as Central America. Archaeologists have found many items from distant cultures in ancient Anasazi sites. Items that must have been prized possessions from exotic and distant lands. Itinerant traders also brought news from afar, and the novelty of a new face in town.

Another ancient petroglyph of the traveling musician and bringer of prosperity, bountiful harvests and babies.

An exotic stranger showing up in a quiet farming community would be reason enough to get excited. In addition, a guy carrying beautiful and fascinating goods from afar, and he’s a musician to boot! It is understandable that people may be intrigued. I know I would be.

A graceful ceramic pot by Hopi artist Stetson Setalla.

One version of his legend holds that Kokopelli, a visiting Katsina in the guise of a traveling musician/trader, carried babies in his backpack. Which he offered to local women. He is often portrayed as some kind of trickster. And a friend to farmers and all who depend on the Earth for a living and a livelihood.

A Kokopelli katsina doll, by Hopi artist Joseph Duwyenie. Many modern katsina dolls have a lively, statuesque appearance. Most of the rare ones I own are like that.

A 19th century Katsina Kokopelli doll in the Brooklyn Museum.

Men in a village create katsina dolls which are then offered to children during the village’s Katsina dances, which take place from January to July. The dolls are educational tools intended to be studied by young people who are discovering the religious beliefs and traditions of the Hopi. Over the past century they have also been made for sale to non-Hopi collectors.

Screenshot_20220914-211058_kindlephoto-404317085.png
This elegant Kokopelli katsina doll was sculpted from a single piece of poplar root by Hopi artist Michael Talahytewa.

In the Katsina known as Kokopelli, aspects of playful sexuality, joyful music and deep reverence for the Earth and the cycles of life itself are combined. It is said that the music of his flute ushers in spring; it melts snow, brings gentle spring rain, and inspires people with what we might call “spring fever” – a desire to celebrate, to dance, to make love. Agriculture in this semi-arid region is difficult now; centuries ago it couldn’t have been more difficult. Kokopelli reminds his people to cherish the joy and beauty in their lives and make the most of it. Remember and honor what is sacred in their lives. For themselves, and for future generations.

Screenshot_20220915-102452_kindlephoto-427658413.png
This spectacular silver-covered buckle is the work of Hopi artist Berra Tawahongva and features a one-horned Katsina priest accompanied by three Kokopellis.

As a sacred and holy part of what is still a vibrant living culture, not to mention one whose rightful owners carefully guard, not sharing every detail about it with outsiders, it’s safe to say that it there’s a lot more to Kokopelli than little I could tell here. But I think I can say with confidence that he is much more than a mascot for the tourism industry. And always will be.

Screenshot_20220914-214904_kindlephoto-406602649.png
A particularly interesting sculpture by Hopi artist Milton Howard. I own a mountain lion katsina done in a similar style.

Thanks for the reading. This is an open topic, all topics are welcome.

I vividly remember when I heard the news that Shopko was closing in Rochester, Minnesota, and it affected our family in a unique way because I had family members who worked in one some stores. It was heartbreaking to see places where we shopped a lot sell everything and turn off the lights for the last time. Closure of 56 Bed Bath & Beyond stores, including stores in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois

Bed Bath & Beyond today shared the list of the next set of stores that will close. Unfortunately, the list contains 56 stores across the country, including one in Minnesota and several in Iowa and Illinois. It’s a list many have been wondering about since August, when the huge homewares store announced it would be closing 150 “low production” stores.

Below are stores in Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois that are among the 56 stores closing.

At this time, the Rochester store is safe. When the rest of the 150 stores are announced, I’ll share this update on my Facebook page – Jessica On The Radio.

You can see the full list and locations of Bed Bath & Beyond stores that are closing on their website here.

How many Bed Bath & Beyond stores are there in Minnesota?

Now that the news is out that the St. Cloud location is closing, Minnesota will be home to 7 Bed Bath and Beyond stores. These locations include Rochester, Apple Valley, Bloomington, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Roseville, and Woodbury.

He’s been surrounded by collectibles ever since. In 1999 he was baffled by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite lines of toys he collected. Since he couldn’t find the information, he decided to search for it himself, thinking that other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and an action figure for a toy news site and within a year he tripled the site’s daily traffic with his updates, reviews and features. of products. He has established relationships with all the major toy manufacturers and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He has turned his hobby into a global expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they started their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted both in the industry and in the mass media. Brotherwise Games has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of an all-new figure set based on the best-selling Storm Archives series by Brandon Sanderson. New Storm Archives The miniature set will include 24 characters from the first four books, with four additional characters added to the set assuming the campaign achieves certain lofty goals. Many miniatures feature characters depicted in visual form for the first time, including several from the most recent book The rhythm of war.

To help kickstart the new Kickstarter campaign, Brotherwise Games has provided ComicBook.com with exclusive images of two campaign elements. Be warned that one of the images is a major spoiler for The rhythm of war, so don’t keep scrolling down if you’re not caught up with the books.

First, Brotherwise Games provided ComicBook.com with an exclusive first look at a 12-inch statue available to backers. The 1:10 scale resin figure depicts Kaladin battling Szeth in the skies, a recreation of the pair’s battle during Shine words.

The second image shows Kaladin wearing his Shardplate, as seen in The rhythm of war. The image below features concept art by Ben McSweeney and the final sculpt by Leander Pokorny.

shardplate-kaladin-reveal.jpg

ComicBook.com also spoke with Brotherwise Games’ Johnny O’Neal about the campaign and their future plans for it. The Stormlight Archive before the launch of the Kickstarter campaign.

ComicBook.com: How did the Stormlight Archives miniatures project come about? How long has this been in the works?

Johnny O’Neal: We’ve been working with Brandon and the Dragonsteel team since 2020, when we released a version of our Call to Adventure series of games based on The Stormlight Archive. This project included over 100 illustrations, and during this process I established a very good relationship with Dragonsteel’s art director, Isaac Stewart. Last year we started talking about making Stormlight figures. From the beginning, this project has been focused on visual development first, merchandise second.

What is the benefit of running a miniatures project for Stormlight Archive as opposed to raffles or another type of Kickstarter project?

O’Neal: There have been many great illustrations of Stormlight, but the characters have never been depicted in three dimensions. I spent a decade working in the toy industry before getting into tabletop gaming, and personally, I love miniatures and action figures. Brandon is a gamer and was excited about the idea of miniatures. Isaac liked that creating miniatures required us to really define an official look for all these characters. So it happened quite naturally!

Assuming this succeeds, will we see even more Cosmere figures down the line?

O’Neal: That’s the plan. These 34mm miniatures will be fully compatible with an upcoming Stormlight tabletop game that Brotherwise is developing with Dragonsteel. This Kickstarter mainly focuses on protagonists, so we would like to sculpt more opponents in the future. We also want to do the fifth set when the next novel comes out!

You can check out the full Kickstarter here.
