First there was normcore, then there was cottagecore. There was even goblincore. And now the new ‘core’ of the moment is here, and it’s the ultra-feminine, playful and unexpected aesthetic you never knew you needed. (Probably our favorite “core” to date, TBH.)

Enter: Barbiecore.

We have a few people to thank for this dynamic trend. First, there’s Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited Barbie movie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is already a viral sensation, though it’s not slated for release until 2023. base.) There’s also Valentino’s “pink-out” collection, which celebrity ambassadors for the fashion house – like Anne Hathaway, Florence Pugh, Zendaya and Sebastian Stan – paraded around the Barbie world via everything from sky-high fluorescent platforms to magenta lows.

Of course, I would be remiss if I did not mention the iconic Barbie doll herself, who debuted in 1959 after designer Ruth Handler noticed a gap in the doll market once dominated by paper dolls. and babies. Barbie dolls produced by Mattel would eventually dominate the childhoods of fashion-loving kids, myself included – which is probably why this trend feels so nostalgic, so intimate, so comforting. Even if it’s a bit kitsch and noisy at the same time.

Whether you love Barbiecore or hate it, one thing is for sure: it’s anything but boring or beige. Barbiecore ushers in an era of pure, pure, dopamine-inducing fun. And, no, you don’t have to star in a Hollywood production or have a Valentino budget to follow the trend.
Below, find 18 Barbie inspirations, high-pink pieces – all under $300 – that will make you feel like a total doll.
